The city of Daytona Beach, 佛罗里达, was built around the area that used to be Orange Grove Plantation. The land was owned by Samuel Williams, and was used to grow oranges and sugar cane. Almost 100 years later, the city, which was comprised of several surrounding towns, was incorporated in 1876. The city was named Daytona after Mathias Day, Jr. who had purchased the Orange Grove Plantation and built a hotel on the land.
Daytona's most famous feature is the long beach made of hardened sand. One of the most famous beaches in the world, Daytona Beach was used for years to host high speed automobile beach racing. The tradition proved to be a dangerous one, and claimed the lives of several daredevils. Although beach racing ended in 1935, automobiles are still allowed to drive on most parts of the beach, but are limited to a speed of 10 mph.
Daytona Beach's love of racing has translated to track racing with the opening of Daytona International Speedway. This track is home of the Daytona 500, NASCAR's most famous race.
Although thought of as a popular tourist destination, Daytona Beach is also an enviable place to live. The city features gorgeous views, beach-side walks, botanic gardens, and historical walks through old sugar mill plantations. In addition, the city offers many necessities of a comfortable hometown from friendly churches to convenient shopping. In addition, for those who love fresh food, farmer's markets are abundant in Daytona Beach.
Daytona Beach is an exciting place to live. Its rich history, and convenient shopping make for a lively town that attracts many new residents every year.
